Live, On-Line Class: How to Make a Flag Book, Wed., Oct., 21, 1:00-3:00 pm PST
In this two hour class you’ll be guided through the process of making this amazing structure. Within a few hours of placing your order I will email you the materials list and the Zoom link. Fieldwork Series: Naturalist Journal / October with Rhiannon Alpers
Fee: $55 Saturday October 24th, 10am – noon PST

Documenting and capturing our experiences in nature is one of many creative springboards for artist books. In this course, we will begin by building a practical, and versatile journal for your amateur naturalist explorations. But it’s the multitude of methods, media, eye candy, and resources bundle that will inspire you to take your collecting, capturing, and documenting to the next level. This course will also include an optional meeting for students to share their creative explorations and creations with the class 2 weeks afterward in an online gallery and zoom meeting (so you have time to get out and get creative).

In this two hour class you’ll be guided through the process of making this amazing structure. Create 5 “dioramas”; when the book is open it creates a star shape. Within a few hours of placing your order I will email you the materials list and the Zoom link. (It’s important for you to cut the pieces before class starts because there won’t be time during class to do so.) Once you see how easy it is to make this structure you’ll go on to make tons more! Learn how to create a house-shaped accordion book with pockets for tiny treasure cards. I will show you how to construct and connect the envelops during this two hour class. Making Bookcloth: Tips & Tricks for best results with Rhiannon Alpers
Fee: $65 Oct 28, 2020 from 6 pm – 8:30pm PST

Making your own bookcloth is a gateway to the options for your bookmaking with color, texture, pattern, and weight. In this workshop, you’ll be lead through three different ways to create bookcloth from start to finish. We’ll also walk through many samples of finished cloth to discuss the tips and tricks for the best results for different applications. Learning this skill will mean expanding forever your creative and practical choices for covering books, boxes, portfolios. There will be a portion of the class for students to try the methods demonstrated if they wish.
Each student will get a kit mailed to them with a starter set of materials for making their own bookcloth. Students will also be provided with a descriptive handout and minimal materials list in advance of the class to allow students to bind along with the instructor during the demonstration.
